Duties and Responsibilities

  • Calculating and verifying savings for energy conservation

  • Participate in engineering and consulting team to identify and recommend energy savings strategies to achieve more energy-efficient operation

  • Inspect, monitor, and analyze energy systems, under supervision, measuring energy consumption and analyzing processes; apply heat transfer, fluid dynamic, and thermodynamic principles, to determine improvements for potential energy savings

  • Calculate energy savings for projects using TRM algorithms, temperature bin analysis, lighting calculators, eQUEST modeling and other tools, and applying standard engineering principles including physics, mechanics, fan laws, thermodynamics, algebra, and statistics

  • Provide support for engineering team on calculator and tool development, on customer and M&V projects, and on training material development

  • Analyze utility and energy efficiency program data, identifying trends, summarizing program events, and identifying causal impacts on program results

  • Conduct ASHRAE level II energy audits, with technical oversight, to assess, evaluate, and analyze energy usage

  • Develop IPMVP-compliant M&V plans and reports, with technical oversight from senior engineering staff

  • Support senior staff with development of presentations, papers and proposals.


  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in energy, mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering and related disciplines

  • 2 years (1 year, if qualified in energy engineering) of work experience as an energy engineer, performing building energy modeling, energy use billing analysis, energy savings calculation algorithms and installing building energy use metering equipment

  • Experience/expertise with data analytics/statistical packages; SAS, SPSS, Python, Stata, Excel, or other software is a plus

  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
