SR. ENERGY ENGINEER | Greater Philadelphia, PA area or Denver, CO

The ideal candidate for this position will have 4+ years of energy efficiency engineering experience. Individuals with directly-applicable DSM experience, especially those who have worked for an Energy Service Company and have experience conducting on-site M&V activities, will be given priority and are highly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting on-site inspections & end use metering activities at residential, commercial and institutional facilities
  • Calculating and verifying savings for energy conservation measures using engineering and statistical techniques
  • Calculating energy savings with TRM algorithms, temperature bin analysis, lighting calculators, eQUEST modeling and other tools
  • Utilizing and applying statistical, economic and financial analysis tools in support of business and policy analysis for demand-side management in the energy and utilities industry
  • Developing quantitative cost-benefit or risk models
  • Analyzing utility and energy efficiency program data utilizing Excel or other analytical software, identifying trends, summarizing program events, and identifying causal impacts on program results
  • Working independently or with supervision to manage research projects and participate in research efforts, ensuring consistency and quality of research methods
  • Conducting primary and secondary research
  • Presenting findings and recommendations at client meetings
  • Documenting findings visually and/or verbally for memos and reports to clients and/or internal project teams
  • Publishing papers and other research material

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering or related disciplines
  • 4+ years of experience working with Demand Side Management (DSM) Consultancies, Energy Service Companies (ESCO), Design Build firms, or Engineering firms (exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered)
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills and client interface capabilities
  • Experience with building energy models, energy use billing analysis, energy savings calculation algorithms, and installing building energy use metering equipment

The ideal candidate for this position will have 5+ years of experience with planning & evaluation in the energy DSM sector. Managing Consultants are expected to play a strong role in business development and serve as technical experts within the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement complex sample plans to achieve specific research objectives. Studies may involve stratification, two-stage cluster sampling, and ratio estimation.
  • Select and apply appropriate statistical and econometric methods to estimate energy efficiency and demand response program impact.
  • Justify and document technical decisions related to research planning and data analysis.
  • Report and present results and findings, as well as actionable recommendations to utility clients and regulators.
  • Manage tasks or projects, monitor progress against milestones and budgets.

Qualifications

Required

  • MS in engineering, statistics or economics with 5+ years of work experience in a consulting environment
  • Graduate coursework in experimental design, sample design and design-based inference
  • Familiarity with basic statistical inference tools (e.g., power calculation, ANOVA, multivariate regression, discrete choice analysis)
  • 5+ years of management experience working with Demand Side Management (DSM) Consultancies, Energy Service Companies (ESCO), Design Build firms, or Engineering firms (exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered)
  • 5+ years DSM experience with energy efficiency measures, savings calculations, on-site measurement techniques, and reporting.
  • Strong research aptitude and ability to solve problems by appropriate design of experiments
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects and work closely with other project team members
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to explain technical information to a lay audience
  • Desire to develop existing and new skill sets in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with colleagues who take pride in their company and enjoy their work
  • Strong familiarity with Excel VBA

Preferred

  • Expertise with programming in at least one statistical software package (e.g., SAS, R, or Stata)
